Yesterday, amateur MMA's finest, U of MMA, put on yet another great show and Systems Training Center came to represent at Club Nokia in downtown LA. First off, kids MMA coach Angel Diaz made his MMA debut and did so in great fashion. After a huge slam, he managed to display his great BJJ skills and finished it with a rear naked choke in the first. What a way to debut! To see a nice slam and the finish, click here.
Anita Hoehenleiter also showed some great BJJ with a standing guillotine a la Jon Jones - another great finish!
Next up was Daria Berrenato, who looked calmed and composed when she entered into what many felt was the fight of the night. The 3 rounds was an all stand-up slug fest that could have gone either way. Daria displayed the more technical boxing and kickboxing but her game opponent landed some hard shots, both girls rocking each other.
BJJ coach Vince Cachero looked just as calm and composed as Daria did for his fight. The BJJ purple belt has been working both his kickboxing and boxing and to many's surprise kept most of the fight standing. Vince did take his opponent down a few times and dominated the fight in all aspects. Vince did everything right, even dropping his opponent and won a unanimous decision.
AJ Lavarias stepped back into the cage in another potential fight of the night. AJ, athletically very strong, much due to his CrossFit, landed some hard shots on his very game opponent, who was also a very strong striker. At one point, both fighters dropped each other! It looked like the fight was going in AJ's favor, who was moving in for the finish and unfortunately got caught and the referee stopped the fight. Such is the business of MMA.
Congratulations to all of our fighters, who did great last night! Also, congratulations to Tommy The Spaniard and Roman Todorovich from Elite in Redondo Beach, who both stopped their opponents as well!
